Half-Time Lay the Draw Trading

Match Selection

There are a number of criteria when selecting suitable matches for laying the draw at half-time. The most obvious one is that the score must be level at the break. After that, filters can be applied in order to identify a suitable selection. These are:

Match stats Red cards Draw price to lay Second half goals percentage Match Stats

The first half stats must show that there were shots and corners. I use FlashScore.com for my in-play stats, but there are a number of sites which you can use. You would generally expect the favourites to have more shots and corners, but that’s not always the case. I would like to see at least four corners and six shots between the teams. Obviously, the more there are, the more likely a goal will be scored.

Red Cards

FlashScore.com will also show you if there have been any red cards. Sometimes, a team being reduced to ten men will result in lots of goals being scored, but often the depleted team will shut up shop and try to escape with a draw. Red cards change matches, so stay well away from them. If you’re already in a trade and a red card is shown, there’s nothing you can do but hope for a goal.

Draw Price to Lay

The draw price to lay must be below 3.00 on Betfair. If a goal is not scored, there is no trading out and so any potential loss must not be too much. Also, if the draw is layed below 3.00 then a goal for either team will result in a profit; above that price and you may find that if the underdog scores you cannot trade out with the market expecting an equaliser. The draw price to lay will be above 3.00 if a very strong favourite is involved or, perhaps, if there has been a red card.

Second Half Goals Percentage

This is the most time-consuming filter. Both teams must have had at least one second half goal in 80% or more of their league matches at home or away, depending on where they are playing in the match you’re looking at. It doesn’t matter which team scored in each match, as long as there was a goal. You do not want to calculate this figure for both teams only to notice a red card, so go through the other stages first. I use Soccerway for these stats. The home team must have played a minimum of five home matches in the current season and the away team must have played a minimum of five away matches in the current season. There are a number of ways to identify suitable matches to trade from half-time. However, with only a fifteen minute break before the second half begins, you must be organised. The more preparation you can complete beforehand, the easier it will be to do everything necessary in that short space of time.
